Launch
welcome to your new favorite photoblog....
After months in development, it is finally D-day, which in the web app world I now understand as "Deployment-day". It's been a long road to get to this point, although I'm very happy to finally have a site functional enough to share. This photoblog was custom built with Ruby on Rails. Building my new site in a web framework like Rails was suggested to me through talks with a web developer friend, because of some custom functionality I envisioned. In addition to this site, I also have a created what I like to call a "Flickr mirror", which is a copy of the content of this site added to my Flickr account (level9ganon) dynamically. This is done via some custom hijinx built-in to my site's admin section.
To start this site off, I've created a launch set of some favorite recent photos. I want this site to be forward looking and expanding, so I have decided against backfilling it with a lot of old photos. Please check back for new entries, and/or subscribe to my RSS feed.

Glad to see you crest that mountain between design and development. I think now you know why all of the developers at EI are a little off. Nice work. I look forward to seeing you twitch more over variable typing and object instantiation.

Awesome! Congratulations, Michael...you're a level 32 geek now, with +5 dev skills. (Can an action figure be far behind?!) Plus, you've got that lovely minimalist/semi-distressed look going down. Sweet. And inspiring to another wanna-be code wrangler like myself... I'm officially adding you to my RSS feed, dude.

This is fantastic. If you are feeling generous and want to release the code I would love to see it as I am anxious to do something like this myself. I am very green when it comes to rails unfortunately.

Thanks for the kind words guys! I'm really glad you enjoy the site.
Aravinth: Cuba Libre is by far my favorite photo of my launch images. The light and color just came together so well.
Mike: If you're new to Rails, take a look at some other API Kits that are available for Flickr, there are a variety of solutions for many different languages. Or of course, take on Rails yourself, hell I did it! I started here.
