In a parallel universe, I think I might be a hydraulic engineer. There is something dizzyingly beautiful about the surfaces of water and the invisible ballet of physics happening within them. My college photography prof created a book of water surfaces (http://people.virginia.edu/~ds8s/bill-w/stillwater/sw06.html) and being good little acolyte, I used some shots of water running underneath a thin layer of ice for one of my final projects. The colors here only add to the visual intensity. Those incredible delicate strands of purple in the lower left are mesmerizing!

Thanks for the link, Scott. What I like about many of those images is their ability to be so open-ended, shots like this one make me think I'm looking up at clouds in the sky.
It's also interesting to hear that you were drawn to the water ripples in this shot. For me, this image became a favorite solely because of the curved shadow leading from her shoulder pointing to her neck.
